RCIN 1051621
-
A loose translation of Kulthum Nanah, a humorous late 17th century Persian book on female superstitions by Jamal al-Din Khwansari.
The translator, James Atkinson, was a British physician employed by the East India Company. His scholarly understanding of the Persian language led to his appointments as assistant assay master at the mint in Calcutta and later deputy chair of Persian in Fort William College. He returned to England in 1828 where he completed this volume and his abridged translation of the Shahnamah.
This is the presentation volume prepared for King William IV as patron of the Oriental Translation Fund. -
