Hieroglyphikes of the life of man / Francis Quarles 1638
Contemporary binding in brown goatskin, the left and right sides remounted onto restored spine also in brown goatskin. Identical design on both sides: outer border consisting of a gold-tooled single fillet line surmounted by two blind-tooled double fillet lines; triple-lobed leaf gold-tooled in each of the four corners and the three feathers of the Prince of Wales surrounded at their base with a crown gold-tooled in the centre. Restored spine, divided into seven compartments by single gold-tooled fillet line. Second compartment contains an additional piece of dark brown leather framed with gold-tooled roll and lettered in gold: ‘CHARLES EMBLEM’, the fourth compartment the same with the lettering: ‘LONDON 1638’.
