The Book of Ballymote c.1837-40
-
Following his visit to Ireland in 1821, George IV commissioned the Irish scholar Owen Connellan to make copies of two Irish manuscripts for his library. The Book of Ballymote (Leabhar Bhaile an Mhóta) was written in 1390 or 1391 and consists of compilations of history, genealogy, Biblical study and Irish law. The original manuscript from which this copy was made is now in the library of the Royal Irish Academy.
