At Princess Margaret's third birthday party the author JM Barrie sat next to her and remarked on one of her presents with the comment, "Is that really your very own?" to which the Princess replied, "It is yours and mine". She later followed up this gracious behaviour by remarking about Barrie, "I know that man. He is my greatest friend and I am his greatest friend." These two lines later made their way into one of Barrie's plays, and this document is the formal agreement drawn up in 1937 by Barrie's friend Sir Reginald Poole between Barrie and Princess Margaret, allowing him to use her lines. In return he gave her a canvas bag containing 170 golden pennies. The agreement is signed by both Barrie and Princess Margaret and was witnessed by her mother, Queen Elizabeth.
