Second edition, with additions. Half leather bound in pink calfskin, with gilt page edges. The first guidebooks to Windsor Castle were published in the mid-eighteenth century, coinciding with the development of Windsor as a popular tourist destination. The local bookseller Joseph Pote first published 'Les Delices de Windsore, or, A Description of Windsor Castle and the country adjacent' in 1755; Charles Knight's 'A Windsor Guide' appeared in 1783. Both books contained descriptive tours of the Castle, and appeared in many later editions. Costing around two shillings and conveniently pocket-sized, the guidebooks were both affordable and portable. This edition of Pote's guide includes a fold-out print of the north front of Windsor Castle, the same aspect drawn by Paul Sandby, c. 1765.
