Diarium Europaeum, Germanice ; v. 45 / Martin Meyer. 1659-83
RCIN 1028966
-
The Diarium Europaeum, or Journal of Europe, was a journal initiated by Martin Meyer under the pseudonym of Philemerus Irenicus Elisius. The work reported extensively on major political events of the period, as well as births, deaths and marriages of the noble houses of Europe. The geographical area covered included the Holy Roman Empire (an alliance of mainly German states, as well as parts of modern day France and Italy), France, England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Scandinavia, Spain, Poland, Russia and Turkey. Very little is known of Meyer, though he was probably born c.1630 and worked in Frankfurt from about 1660. Evidence from the present work suggests that he died c.1670 (the title page ceases to bear his pseudonym).
