Sir Harford Jones Bridges was envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary to the court of Persia for four years from 1807 to 1811 and later a Privy Counsellor to William IV. He published this account of his time there in 1834 and dedicated it to the King.
The book describes the author’s conversations with the Shah of Persia, Fath Ali Shah (r. 1797–1834) about Elizabeth I (or, as the Shah referred to her, Lizbat dil shir, ‘Elizabeth the lion heart’) and the Shah’s suggestion that his son, the Crown Prince of Persia, should marry Princess Charlotte, the daughter of George IV. -
