Queen Pōmare IV was Queen of Tahiti from 1827 until her death in 1877. Her reign saw increased French influence in the country and a series of violent colonial wars which resulted in Tahiti becoming a French protectorate in 1847. This book is an account of her reign. It was written by the British missionary George Pritchard. Pritchard travelled to Tahiti in the 1820s and in 1837 became British Consul at Tahiti where he served as an advisor to the queen. He left the country in 1844 due to his opposition to the actions of France.
