4to. : [38] p. One of five items in a composite volume.
This is a scarce copy of a pamphlet written in defence of Catherine of Aragon against the divorce sought by Henry VIII. Giovanni-Luigi Aragonia was an ecclesiastical lawyer charged by Giovanni Antonia Muscettola, envoy and advisor to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, with assisting in the queen’s cause. Aragonia is mentioned occasionally in the correspondence of the imperial ambassador Miguel Mai, but little more about him is known.
The pamphlet lacks a date or imprint and appears to have been hastily put together. A letter from Aragonia dated 27 July 1532 shows that his remarks on the divorce proceedings had been written by this date; they may have been printed as the Anglie Matrimonii at Bologna or Rome.
