The Rebellion Record provides a contemporary history of the American Civil War. Published between 1861 and 1868 it documented the events of the war and its effects of American culture as the war was still being fought. The twelve volumes collate documents, newspaper reports, speeches, poems and popular songs to give a comprehensive overview of the conflict. The text, though published in New York, a Union stronghold, also includes articles and letters published by newspapers in the Confederate States.
