Sumitra and her son Lakshman. He holds a bow and arrow as she gives him a sprig of flowers. In the Hindu epic Ramayana, Sumitra persuades the young Lakshman to follow Rama into exile.
Painted by an artist in the Punjab Hills in the early 19th century.Provenance
This painting is one of a group twelve (RCINS 925221-32) found in an Indian silk brocade folder acquired by Edward VII when Prince of Wales, likely during his Tour of India in 1875-6.
