An episode from the Hindu epic the Bhagavata Purana: Vishnu saves the elephant Gajendra from the clutches of the crocodile Makara. Vishnu has slit Makara's throat with his sword and is pulling Gajendra out of the river by his tusk. The large pigeon represents Vishnu’s mount Garuda.
