A depiction of Markandeya’s vision, as described in the Bhagavata Purana.
According to many of the Hindu epic texts, Vishnu revealed himself in the form of a baby to the immortal sage Markandeya shortly before the creation of the present world. Markandeya was the only person to survive from the previous cycle of creation and found the baby (Krishna) floating in the middle of the primordial ocean. Krishna was lying on a pipal leaf and sucking his big toe, ‘a child with a face like the moon and eyes as wide as a blooming lotus… his skin the colour of cornflowers…’. He opened his mouth and Markandeya discovered the whole of the cosmos inside it.For further information on this album see RCIN 1005113.
