    Recto:

Ladies playing on a swing under a mango tree beside a river. One woman sits on a carpet smoking a hookah pipe while another kneels with her head in her hand. In the background are oxen with carriages, and a distant palace on the hilltop. Several other versions of this scene exist, many in reverse, including a painting in one of the Gentil albums: BNF 12148 f.11.

    Verso:

An exercise in the Indian taliq script by Ghulam Riza, the pen cutter (qalam tarash). The Persian text comprises an anecdote on the allegorical meaning of cutting pen nibs (qalam tarashi) and good government, based on an episode from the life of the Abbasid calligrapher Yahya Vasiti.
