A portrait of the Mughal emperor Alamgir (r. 1658-1707) enthroned under a canopy as he receives his Vazir (Prime Minister), probably Asad Khan (in post from 1676-1707). An attendant with a fly whisk stands behind him.
The painting appears as plate LVI in An illustrated selection of the principal exhibits of the loan exhibition of antiquities, Delhi Museum of Archaeology, Coronation Durbar, 1911 (RCIN 1113355). More than 20 years later, Imre Schweiger presented it as a birthday gift to Queen Mary.In an accompanying letter to her, he erroneously described it as a portrait of Alamgir II.Provenance
