Desert wheatear, early 17th century.
A small, black and tan bird that winters in Pakistan, painted in the style of the artist Mansur. It faces right in grassy landscape beside a stream, with flights of birds in the sky.
verso:
Ashraf Khan, c. 1750-80.
Portrait of Alamgir's courtier Ashraf Khan standing on a terrace. He clasps a Deccani firangi sword in his right hand and holds a jewel in his left.
The green background and sky appear to be later additions.
