Painting of a billy goat with long horns sitting facing left chewing a sprig in a grassy landscape. Half-concealed behind him sits a chinkara, or Indian gazelle, facing right, also chewing a sprig.
verso:
Mughal lady, late 18th century.
Painting of a Mughal lady of rank stands in a meadow facing left against a pale blue background. She holds the knot of her shawl in her left hand and the side of her odhani head scarf in the other. The composition is based on a mid-17th century model in the British Library's Dara-Shukoh Album. Distant hills have been drawn in the lower part of the painting and a gold and grey sky above.
