recto:
Musk deer, 17th century.
A small painting of a young female musk deer sitting on a flower meadow.
verso:
Yoginis, early 18th century.
A yogini kneels on a tiger skin outside a hut at night. Implements for worship sit on a tray next to her. On the right, another ash-smeared yogini sits holding a string of prayer beads with a yoga patta (meditation band) wrapped around her legs. A small lion sleeps on the left, suggesting that the painting might depict Bangali Ragini, usually depicted as a devotee at worship with a feline guard. The later inscription in the margin mistakenly identifies the main figure as the Hindu Queen Rupmati.
