Recto:
Painting of a white Chinkara, or Indian Gazelle, early 18th century.
Verso:
A Nayika waiting for her lover, late 18th century.
This painting is intended to evoke sringara rasa (the erotic mood). Her direct gaze meets that of the viewer who takes the place of the hero (nayak) for whom she is waiting. The background is a later addition.
