recto:
Gadwall duck, 17th century.
Painting of a Gadwall duck facing right. Originally against a plain background, the grassy bank and green wash are later additions. A companion piece to the painting on the previous folio (33v, RCIN 1005069.ah).
verso:
Nath yogis, c.1600-1605.
A group of Nath yogis seated around a small fire on a hillside at sunrise. On the far right, a yogi wearing just a loincloth and sash carries a small shovel and bags containing the ash which is used to cover their bodies.
The four seated yogis wear cloaks, hats, deer horns hanging on threads around their necks, and thick black earrings. One wears a peacock feather crown, a symbol of the Hindu god Krishna, while another wears a wide necklace hanging from which are strips of coloured cloth.
