Portrait of the Emperor Alamgir, c.1725
Emperor Alamgir (1618-1707, formerly Prince Awrangzeb) was the sixth Mughal emperor and third son of Shah-Jahan. In this posthumous portrait he is depicted as a stooped old man in a plain white jama leaning on his straight-bladed (firangi) sword. Tucked into his patka is a jade handled khanjar dagger.
