Portrait of Emperor Humayun, c.1620.

Despite being named as Miran Shah, this painting most likely depicts Emperor Humayun. The image derives from the same source as the portrait of Humayun in a landscape by Payag from the Late Shah Jahan Album in the Sackler Museum. The emperor holds a ruby turban ornament (sarpech) whilst kneeling beside a book on a floral carpet. In both paintings he is depicted wearing a tall Humayuni turban with a tall black feather, his head surrounded by a large halo.

Rubai by Sadi written on plain paper diagonally across the page, the calligraphy enclosed in clouds which are surrounded by gold wash.
