verso:Portrait of Hakim Humam, c. 1615-20.
Hakim Najib al-Din Humam (d. 1596) was a Persian doctor at the court of Akbar. He was very close to the emperor and in 1588 was sent as his envoy on an embassy with valuable presents to the court of Abdullah Khun Uzbek (see folio 31). Prince Salim also held Hakim Humam in high esteem and wrote in his memoirs that the doctor's treatment cured him of his alcohol addiction.
This portrait has been cut and pasted onto the album page with the background added later. The hakim is depicted in full profile wearing a long gold cloak and a round green turban with a gold chain. He wears a dark purple jama underneath and clasps his hands at his front.
