This anonymous compilation of Persian proverbs and sayings was written in India during the 19th century. Although the compiler’s identity remains unknown, their praise of the Twelve Imams in the preface indicates they were a Shia Muslim.
The proverbs are arranged in alphabetical order according to their first word. The section headings are written in red, while individual sayings are separated by three red dots.
Binding description
India, 19th century. Paper boards decorated with outer covers made of marbled paper, framed with paper decorated in the same style as the inner boards; the inner boards are painted in red with a trellis design in silver. The manuscript is housed in a printed cotton wrapper.Provenance
